: I am trying to get info on how owners and crews of ships divided profits in days of old. Is this the custom today or has it changed?
: Thanks Boyd

Hi Boyd,

My understanding is that most fishing boats these days pay in "crew shares," i.e. percentages of the catch. See http://www.jobmonkey.com/alaska/html/getting_paid.html for some details.

I believe this has been the tradition on fishing boats for centuries, but I don't know for sure. I also don't know about merchant trading ships. (There are fascinating stories about how pirates were paid.)

Chris
